You’re supposed to write an introductory post to tell people about yourself. So the internet says. I just read a blog post myself actually, saying if you get your first one wrong then you’re “doomed to fail”, which made me defensive because I have nothing to talk about.
The post proposes lots of criteria. Lots of things that you need to let your audience know, about your intentions, your goals, but who wants to read that?
You could start like Ai Weiwei. His first blog post was, “You need a purpose to express yourself, but that expression is its own purpose¹”. That’s it. When I read this I was inspired. Except I’m not an artist, nor am I an activist, so I have none such wisdom to impart on my audience.
You could start like Hannahmazing. Upon searching for ways to start a blog, you may stumble across a post titled ‘Surprising First Posts of 7 Famous Bloggers‘. Love her energy, super scatty. Energy aside though, I have never read a personal blog in my life, as you can see by my lack of examples. Is that bad?
So. I don’t know what I’m doing. But that’s okay, because who really knows what they’re doing?
A wise man once said…
“If you have plans, you only have one go. If you don’t have plans, it often turns out well because you’ve followed the situation. That’s why I’ve always jumped into unprepared situations, the most exciting conditions²”.
Shitting about aside, that quote perfectly encapsulates what I want this to be. I’m not an expert on anything. I could recommend the best glasses for your prescription, or I could introduce you to some base level climbing, but in terms of knowledge that’s all I have to offer.
I’m a long way away from being able to call myself a journalist, or even a writer, so for now, I continue to shit about until I find a way there. Thank you for reading 🙂
